Abstract: |
Adsorption techniques are one of the promising approaches for wastewater treatments specially in case of color removal. Polyaniline (PANI) due to its interesting properties as a conductive polymer could perfectly applied for adsorption of anionic base pollutants like acidic dyes, but using PANI in form of powder has some difficulties such as subsequent separation problems. Therefore, using PANI as a part of composite with other polymers can be a promising way to overcome this obstacle. In this regard, nylon (N6)-polyaniline nanocomposite web was produced through in-situ polymerization of PANI on the nylon-6 nano fibrous mat, film and fabrics. Chemical interaction between nylon substrate and PANI was studied using FTIR spectroscopy. SEM analysis showed that using this method can successfully introduce a nono scale coating (about 65 nm) of PANI on the surface of nylon. The coating yield and assessment of coated PANI layer on different form of nylon substrate was measured and dye adsorption mechanism and kinetic on different substrates was compared using mathematical models. The adsorption of methyl orange on N6-PANI nanocomposite was found about 370 mg/g by UV-visible spectroscopy which was twice of its adsorption capacity in powder form. Effect of environmental conditions such as pH and doping medium on adsorption as well as ability of adsorbent for regeneration and reusability was investigated. Results shows that N6-PANI nanocomposite doped in pH=1 has a great ability to adsorb anionic dye specially in acidic conditions with ability of regeneration for reusability. Overall, this technique can be considered as an economic and clean method for achieving a high capacity reusable adsorbent. |
