Abstract:
Electrospun Nylon 66 nanofibers, in the form of nonwoven fabrics, were impregnated with the three dental composites named as Nano hybrid, Micro hybrid and Micro fill. Electrospun nanofibers were added in laminates to dental composites in 17%, 20% and 23% concentrations of polymer solution and 0, 0.5, 1.5, 3 and 6 percentage weight fraction. Based on multivariate analysis of variance at significance level of 5%, average levels of any factors and interaction between the two factors were significant. Three-point bending test results indicated flexural strength (FS), elastic modulus (EY) and work of fracture (WOF) of the nanofiber reinforced composite resins were all significantly increased with relatively small amounts of Nylon 66 nanofibers. The addition of 6% (mass fraction) nanofibers in 23% concentration of polymer solution improved FS of the composite Micro hybrid 68.08%, EY of the composite Nano hybrid 50.9% and WOF of the composite micro fill 106.08% over those of the neat dental composite. Result showed during loading, nanofibers were integrated in order to increase the strength, reduce porosity and closing the cracks and development friction and increases the contact. It’s observed the work of fracture was increased at interface of dental resin and nanofiber. This leads to increasing efficiency and longevity of composite.
