Abstract: |
In order to improve the anticorrosion properties of widely used epoxy coating, appropriate dispersion of graphene oxide (GO) in epoxy coating and the corrosion resistance of this mixture was investigated. At the first step, the GO powder was synthesized by modified Hummers’ method. The dispersion of GO in various chemical solvents and its distribution in polymeric coating was studied. Based on literature, the optimum amount of GO in organic solvents was found to be less than 5 mg/ml. This value was considered for other solvents such as water, ethanol and (DMF). It was revealed that the best solvent for dispersion of GO is water. It was observed that the coating containing GO exhibited higher corrosion resistance. In order to characterize the obtained powders, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Ultra violet-visible light spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Fourier transmission infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) were used. The anti-corrosive properties of nanocomposite were investigated with polarization test (PDS). The optimum amount of GO in epoxy was estimated with polarization test (PDS) and the obtained value was 0.5 wt.% of coating (epoxy and its hardener). |
